Trevor didn't get to rest long. He wasn't released for any great length of time before his new adventure came to light!! He was called to serve as a counselor in the bishopric. Now this is extra special for him because his good buddy, partner is various crimes and all around good friend is the other counselor. His buddy, Nick Holliday is the other counselor. I don't think life could be any better for these two. The couples met in Hawaii and what do you know!!-they are both from Mesa! This is a match truly made in heaven! Nick and Trevor, Lauren and Tara-such awesome friends and now they will serve together. These are the things that make life so sweet!

Of course Bob can't resist a day of skiing. His brother, David flew in Friday morning and they concocted a way to meet on the slopes. The snow was fresh on the 2nd of April. Bob threw together what he could find at his mom's house and David brought the missing items from Sacramento. They got a free pass and split the price on the other one! They had a great day!!

Jordan comes to live with us!

Jordan came to visit on her way to Italy to teach English. While she was here and through a series of events, she decided the best thing to do was to come back to Arizona, work for the summer and save money to go on to graduate school. She was accepted last year to a graduate school in DC but didn't feel good about it. She has applied to some schools in Scotland and England. AZ isn't the best place to be in the summer-as far as I'm concerned-but she said she loves the warmth. She got a better job than she had in MA and things seemed to be moving along nicely for her.

A couple of weeks ago, Lauren and Trevor had Stake Conference and he was released from serving on the High Council. Lauren tells me as the session is beginning, the visiting general authority was looking over in their direction, saying something to the Stake President. Lauren said they began to be a little nervous. Trevor starting looking through his scriptures. It could very easily be a possibility that they would call someone they had just released to bear their testimony....right??! The meeting proceeds and they call LAUREN to the stand to bear her testimony!! Holy cow!! she was shocked but she gave an awesome testimony relating things they've learned as Hale parents!! Goes to show, you never know!

Christmas Day dinner

Christmas day started later with dinner. Lauren and Trevor had to go to the Bullocks in the morning so we had dinner in the afternoon. We had the traditional mexican food meal which everyone loves.

Dinner at the Ambassador

As if we hadn't eaten enough during Thanksgiving week-Lauren's birthday celebration on Monday, Thanksgiving Thursday, and Trevor's birthday celebration on Friday. So Saturday, Justin gave us free dinner passes to the Ambassador restaurant at the

Polynesian Cultural Center. The Ambassador is the nicest restaurant there and it's all you can eat shrimp, crab legs, prime rib, salad, veggies, anything. Justin earned the passes and wanted us to use them. Bob, Trevor and I along with Nick (Lauren stayed with Tara and let Nick take her place) took advantage of Justin's generosity.

Thanksgiving this year was at Lauren and Trevor's home in Hale 2. They had tables set up threw the dining room and family room. About 15 people were there and we had about everything you could imagine. 2 turkeys, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoe puff, creamed peas, fruit salad, cranberry salad, homemade cranberry sauce, and even more for dessert-pies, pies, pies!!

Lauren turned 26 on the 23rd!! seems impossible-but Oh how it is! Her first request was to sleep in. With her new job as Hale mom I can definately see how she needs it. 2nd request-Ted's bakery for lunch.

So off to Ted's at Sunset beach we went. Lauren and Trevor waiting at the table for the food. Then suddenly the rain, came and came and came. Just as we began to eat, the rain fell harder and harder. We were soaked by the time the meal was over and the rain stopped. Oh well, it was Ok because we were in our suits headed to the beach. We made it to Hukilau for about 20 minutes and then the rain came again! We packed up and headed over to Ponders where we got a good hour in before the rains...........

New Moon!

How did I forget to post that we went to "New Moon" on Friday! It just happened that Lauren's best friend Tara's mom was here too! So all of us went to the newly refurbished theater here for a lovely matinee. We had a great time and the movie was pretty good--loved the scenery!

Area conference in Hawaii

The last 2 days, everyone around here has been making final preparations for the arrival of President Monson and Elder Perry and other general authorities for a All Hawaiian island area conference. But before all the excitement got started, they received word President Monson wouldn't becoming due to a fall Sister Monson took a couple of weeks ago and she was still in the hospital recovering.

Saturday was a priesthood session and Justin was asked to sing in the men's choir. One of students at BYUH arranged the music and Trevor told us in was beautiful. Before they began the meeting, Justin said Elder Perry looked at the group and said, "you know, the music is the most important part of the meeting." That made me feel better about my calling!

This morning we arrived early for the meeting. A stake here on the island was singing and it was absolutely beautiful. Everyone was in white with black kakui nut leis. The sound was so beautiful I immediately started to cry. There is something about Polynesian voices that get me every time. Elder Maynes of the seventy talked about "the church will never be stronger than the next generation. Elder McConkie gave a quote from the author David McCullough saying, "attitude isn't taught, it's caught". Think about that for a minute, it's really true. The other talks were great as well.

Elder Perry talked about Thanksgiving and how the tradition began. He talked about William Bradford wanting the original purpose for Thanksgiving to be a time of fasting and prayer. He read from the original document that was instituted when George Washington was president. He stated that our forefathers asked that God would "pardon us", that we" promote knowledge and true religion" and "humbly offer prayer and supplication to the Lord" to celebrate Thanksgiving.

President Monson was able to deliver his address by satellite. He talked about his wife. He said, "Love is often felt, but seldom expressed" and we need to show our love more. He talked about the "lost battalion" and how so feel no one cares. Each of need to be a friend. The best quote came from Wardon Duffy of San Quentin prison. Someone asked him referring to his prisoners, if he "knew a leopard doesn't change his spots". His reply came back, "sir I work with men not leopards." Such an awesome quote! Anyone can change, anyone can repent and be who they want to be!

Bob came in last night but while we were waiting we shopped until we dropped! Lauren, Trevor and I went to the Ala Moana shopping center. We were doing some birthday shopping for Lauren. For those of you who used to frequent the Ala Moana back in the day, there has been some big changes! As the sign says, "50 years"! It is a huge mall now with every shop you can think of. Of course in Hawaiian style they had a live band playing in the center court and Christmas decorations out. They had poinsettia stuck in all the tropical plants-different-but beautiful........many memories of that shopping center!

As we drove in, it reminded me of an experience I had while going to school in Hawaii in 1980.

My friend Verna and I had taken the bus to Ala Moana to shop on a Saturday. We shopped all day, had a great time and had to run to catch the final bus of the evening. We hopped on a bus as we continued visiting about the fun we had during the day. As the bus continued to go we didn't recognize the area we were in but didn't think much of it because we weren't all that familiar with the island. Suddenly the bus stopped and the bus driver said, "girls this is the final stop. You need to get off." We answered, "but this isn't where we are going!" He said, "I'm sorry you need to get off. I can't take you any further." Verna and I got off the bus and looked at each other and said what do we do? We were dropped off in a grassy area under a street light. There was nothing around us, no landmarks, no houses, no humanity. We sat there for a while and then it began to start getting dark. We then decided we had to pray. We prayed for help and to figure out what to do. We sat there for a little bit and then a family is a stationwagon drove up to us. They asked if we went to BYUHawaii and we said we did. They then asked if we were lost and we said we were. Then they told us to get in the car and they would take us home. I still remember the dad's attitude of "those silly girls". They gave us a ride back to campus and we were so grateful. To this day, I have no idea where we were but I absolutely know that the Lord was watching out for us silly college girls and sent that family to protect us. I can never deny the Lord hears and answers our prayers!

We went to Houston

For the 1st time ever, we went to visit Houston, TX. We went to see my old roommate Karen and her new family. We also went to help her decorate and organize her beautiful new house. She lives in a place called Spring just outside Houston. The homes were lovely and quite large in that part of Texas, but isn't everthing bigger in Texas!! Her husband is a very nice guy and the step children are so sweet. They love her and fact that she is now their mom.

When we arrived Karen had our room set up like a hotel suite complete with Martenellis, chocolate cupcakes, candles and a card. It was our 27th anniversary and she had been a bridesmaid so it was fun to celebrate with all of us together again.

We went to the Houston temple. The granite on the outside and the peaks at the top reminded me of the Salt Lake Temple. After the temple, they took us out to dinner.

On Sunday, October 25th we went to Ward and Sigie's for Sunday dinner. We had Stake Conference and it was so nice to go over there. Sigie's asked me to bring dessert.

This is what I came up with! I found it on the internet. It's a pumpkin cake with cream cheese frosting. So delicious!

Sigie made a beautiful table and delicious dinner. It was sooo goood! Bob and I were there with Craig and Lisa, Janae and her friend Zach. It turned out we need Zach's aunt and he had spent time living in our ward. Such a small world!

Justin was supposed to be home on Friday morning but flights were full. He made it home in time for conference. It was great to have him home. He was a little thin but his spirit was good. Ofcourse we had mexican food and roast beef and anything to get some food down him! We saw his debut on BYU TV after the Saturday session. On Sunday afternoon, Kirk, Sue, Tiffany, Cody and Alessia (Karen's daughter) came for dinner. It was fun to have the cousins all together-it's been many years.

Justin then had to leave Monday morning instead of Tuesday and it looked like he wasn't going to get a chance to go to the lake. But Keifer got up with him at 6:00 am and the two went jet skiing for a couple of hours before his 10:45 flight! What a great big brother!
It was great to have Justin home and see such growth! He even loved his room redecorated-he just stood there and said, "How elegant!"

My home teacher came Sunday and asked if I knew John Dana. I said yes and then began telling me how he was having him fly out here for a job interview. He was considering bringing him in as a partner or something in his business. I told him I really hadn't seen him in many years and I would love to see him. The next thing I know, I got a phone call Monday morning from his secretary asking if they could bring John by about 4pm on Friday when they were done with the interviews. I told them how awesome that would be! And so we had a nice visit and it's seems something never change. He still the same old John! It was a nice gesture from my home teacher to make sure I got to see my cousin!

This year we spent Labor Day in San Diego with Chuck and Gail McClure. It was a nice relaxing trip. We left Thursday night and got there late. Gail has this affection for the kitchen and cooked nonstop. And I mean nonstop! From biscuits and gravy, hot philly sandwiches and on and on. It took me a week to recover! But relax we did! and ofcourse we watched the BYU/OK game! Wow what a game!

Jimmy came back for Sunday dinner. We met Jimmy when he was 17 and Keifer 14. He was investigating the church. Bob was Ward mission leader but it was Keifer who saw a need. Keifer came to us and asked if Jimmy could come to dinner because he didn't have any members in his family. Keifer asked that he come not once but every week. Jimmy came every week for 2 years and then went on a mission to Japan. He came home finished his education and fell on some unfortunate personal issues. But he's back and he and Keifer picked up where they left off. Just like the old times. Jimmy has been back twice and we plan to have him back many more times! Last Sunday he even asked Bob for another Father's blessing. It's nice to have him back!

Hawaii hear they come!

June 3rd, Justin and Bob took off for Hawaii to attend Lauren's graduation on Sat, June 6th. I stayed behind with Keifer and we were supposed to leave the next day. Keifer had not been feeling well since he, Justin and Bob had golfed on Saturday for his birthday. While I was running some errands, Keifer went to get checked out and found out he had broken his ribs and torn some muscles loose golfing!! Yep, golfing! He knew he had been in pain and now he knew why!! Now no trip to Hawaii. I stayed with him until Friday trying to help him get comfortable. He says he hurts all the time and it's hard to get comfortable. He hurts whether he sits, stands or lays down and it supposed to be this way for 6-8 weeks.

Truman Madsen's Funeral

June 1st we flew to UT to attend Truman's funeral. Bob grew up with the Madsen's near by and had a special place in his heart for him. Truman's wife, Ann took a special liking to Bob once he got his mission call to Samoa. Her father had served there. Bob grew up with their kids either in the same ward or the ward next.
The funeral was incredible to say the least. It was held in the Provo Tabernacle with Elders Henry B. Eyring, Jeffery R Holland, Richard G Scott, Dallin H Oaks and Russell M Nelson. There were several area seventy there. All the apostles talked as well as Steve Young and his 3 children. He had 2 daughters and 1 son. Both daughters got up and said the same thing. They said their father believed that everyone should have someone that loves them irrationally. Both daughters believed he was that for them. Their son said that he took a class from his dad and he told him "you better get an A in my class or I'm going to flunk you!" Steve Young talked about Truman helping him with his testimony and teaching him about the Saviour over in Israel. Each apostle had something personal to say and then Elder Eyring read a letter from the first presidency for the family.
My personal memory of Truman was not long ago in Provo. We were visiting and Bob and brother ran into Truman in the foyer. Truman said he was teaching gospel doctrine and invited us to come (he's in the next ward). Ofcourse his class was awesome, interesting and funny. But what got me was just before class started I was asked to say the opening prayer. I told the person that I was a visitor and he said you can still do it. So I did and I was very intimidated. Truman was very kind.
It was stated at his funeral that know one that has ever lived has done more to teach about Joseph Smith. I echo what was said, "one of the true great ones it gone".

Josh Duffy graduates from ASU Law

Josh graduated on Friday from Law school. Party at Auntie Lisa followed. Burgers, dogs, potato salad, chips and all the trimmings. Lots of people and lots of fun.....for dessert cupcakes and Sigies delicious scumpets (Keifer term for her cream puffs). Shaun came home with us for an overnighter. As I tried to go to bed, I kept hearing loud laughter coming from the other room. Keifer and Shaun were just busting each other up!!

Friday night at the Central building in Phoenix, there was a reunion concert by

Elton (Lee Huff) and the band. Lee and his band! It was great to see so many people from the old days!

Bob and his good buddy, LB! Lyle Beecher and Bob have finally been reunited in Phoenix! They met serving in an Elders Quorum presidency and have loved each other since. And to put the cherry on top, they just found out Bob's mom and Lyle's aunt went to school together and have been friends for many years. They've gone on reunion trips together for years and keep close touch..........small world!

Twilight Night!

Meredith and I had Twilight night on Wednesday. Bob and Keifer kicked us into the bedroom--but Bob did make us kettle corn. We plopped up on the bed and watched the movie "Twilight" together. It was my first time. Yes, people, true. I held out! It was so much fun-Mere has seen the movie so many times. We analyzed it as we watched it with no one telling us to be quiet! Saturday, Niki got baptized by her dad, Seth Keeler. Seth has been part of our family for many years now. We often called him our "foster son" even though he had parents!

Seth and NikiNiki in her beautiful dress! Niki is a very special girl to us. She was born and lived the first part of her life at Grandma Dana's house. Her parents were taking care of Grandma after Grandpa Dana died. Grandma loved her so much.

Niki is showing her bracelet we had made for her. It is made of cultured pearls and svwarski crystals. It has 2 strands representing her two white dress choices so far. Her choice to come to earth and her blessing, then her baptism and acceptance of following the Savior. We will add a third strand when she gets married! Kirk's wife Sue made it for her--it's very beautiful!

Easter dinner this year! We had roast beef (because everyone likes it better!), mashed potatoes, gravy, peas, cucumber salad, homemade rolls, homemade raspberry jam, cinamon rolls and strawberry cheesecake. This year we did something different. We usually have a fun easter egg hunt for the big kids-with big kid gifts. This year, due to some rough times, we decided to have a "service egg" exchange. Every one put in an egg a service they were willing to do. We put the eggs in a basket and everyone picked one! I liked it better than the easter egg hunt!

Conference Weekend

Conference was great! This is the first time in a while that we haven't gone to UT. It was nice to stay home. Yesterday, Kirk put new lights up in my bathroom and new faucets between sessions. We ran into a hitch; one of the new faucets leaked so Bob couldn't go to priesthood session with Ward and Josh. Instead he went to our building.
Lots of talk about temples and adversity. After the last session today, we had a great roast beef dinner with all the fixins. Roast beef, potatoes, gravy, sour cream cucumbers, peas, corn, home made rolls and raspberry jam and pineapple upside down cupcakes! Bob and I, Keifer, Kirk and Sue and Josh Duffy! (Josh waiting for Meredith's return tonight from her Asian travels!) Great day!

I had a fun little adventure on Thursday. I had to speak again at Phoenix Honors Cotillion. The head of Cotillion is a good friend of ours, Donna Kenney. She always wants me to give the personality test and talk to the girls about being good to one another and to the people you meet. Cotillion is a debutante training and ends with a huge ball at the Civic Plaza. The ball is beautiful. Lauren went through Cotillion and Keifer and Justin have been ushers/helpers for years. They get all dressed up in tuxedos and I think they enjoy it!

Yesterday Bob and I talked in church about missionary work. We talked about being good to your neighbors and being good examples. It's always fun to talk about missionary work and review the happy memories of baptisms and bringing people into the gospel. It is so fullfilling. I just ran into a ward member at Bashas and he went on and on about our talks. It's nice to know they were well received!

Sunday, March 15th we had 2 AZ Cardinals straight from the superbowl speak in our ward! Aaron Francisco and Dueuce Lutui came to share their testimonies.

Aaron talked about his struggle with disappointment at not being drafted in the NFL after his stint at BYU. He talked about reflecting on the his habits and the things going on in his life. He discovered that he wasn't reading his scriptures, praying, going to church. He humbled himself and regrouped. He accepted an offer from the Cardinals with relunctance. He worked hard and now is a captain for the team. He read us his life goals he had written 4 years ago; he had never shared them with anyone. Aaron became very emotional as he read the goals which included temple attendance, paying tithing and church attendance. No mention of football, just serving the Lord. He was very shy and gave a heart-felt talk.

Dueuce was very animated. He talked about his family coming from Tonga and living in a 2 bedroom apartment with 6 kids. He had a very successful high school career and was offered a scholarship at the UofU. Before he headed to the U, he got his patriarchal blessing and it told him not to go to the school; he didn't go. He went to MCC for a year, Snow College and then USC for 2 national championships. He also talked about calling Curt Warner, the QB and asking him to come to bear his testimony at the fireside. Curt said he would have come but was NY. Had Warner shown, I think everyone would have fainted! It was a great fireside; the spirit was really strong.

A funny story-as we were setting up, a guy came up in and asked if this was the fireside with David Archuletta! Yep! If you turned right on McKellips, you saw the Cardinals; if you turned left, you saw David Archuletta from American Idol! crazy!!

Friday, March 6th, we flew to Sacramento to finally have a visit with the David Evans family.

On our agenda that night was to go to the Sacramento Temple.

The Sacramento Temple reminds me of the Newport Beach Temple on a larger scale. The interior is very similar, just bigger.

Weekend at Grandma Rita's

We went to see Grandma Rita on Saturday only to discover she has yet again gone under the knife!! She had surgery on her hand. We had planned on only staying 24 hours but ending up staying until Monday morning. We had a nice visit and she kept asking us to stay longer. We'll have to get up there again so!

The Iris' are blooming!

The Iris' are blooming in the front yard! A good friend of mine, Jean Baker, moved around a lot. She told me that each time she moved take some of the bulbs from her old house to plant at her new house. So these iris' are from our house on Edgemont. They were planted by the original owners of the house. They would bloom each year right under our large picture window in the living room.

When we decided to move over to Mesa, I dug up a few and re-planted them in our front planter and they have gone crazy. We now moved some to the back by the pool but they aren't doing as well.

Our Valentine Dinner

On Tuesday, I had Temple Day. In the morning, Leann Klepinger and I went to the temple. We had planned to do so for some time. We hadn't spent time to together for so long! We had such a good time and we capped off the temple with lunch at Sweet Cakes on Main just down the street from the temple. Then later on in the afternoon, I met up with Lisa and her friend Rhonda, and Ward and Sigie for a 4:00 session. On Monday, Meredith asked me if I wanted to go to the temple with her on Tuesday and I said, "guess what! Everyone's going Tuesday! come join us!" So there we were, all in a row! Lisa, Rhonda, Meredith, me and Sigie. What a great sight. After we finished at the temple, Mer had to run to YW and the rest of us came home for chili and cornbread, salad and Sigie's dump cake.

Tejadas are going on a Mission!

This couple has quite a story of immigrating to the US from South America. They worked hard and raised a wonderful family. They were in our ward in Phoenix and we were always inspired by their dedication to family and church. They sent 4 of their 6 children on missions and now it's their turn. The parents are now headed off to Veracuz Temple to serve their mission!

We surprised Sigie with a new 7ft pre-lit Christmas tree! She told me that's what she wanted!! It was a fun surprise!

Yesterday Bob and Keifer decided to go golfing and Keifer was sporting this little number. He told us the hat was Grandpa Dana's!! Nice scottish plaid!!

Justin leaves to go back to Hawaii

On December 31st, Justin boarded the plane back to Hawaii. Before he left, Keifer thought it was important that he take him on ride in the golf cart that he has been working on.

A trip to the Temple Lights

December 30th, Ward and Sigie came over for tacos. For some reason the tacos were extra delicious. We had Keifer sauce and Sigie taco sauce. As we talked, we discovered they had never been to the Christmas lights at the temple!! no kidding! Before the temple, Keifer took everyone for a ride in the RV. Ward and Sigie were like little kids in a candy store!! After the fun, we drove them to the temple lights. It was beautiful and we made a date for next year to walk around!
